Project name: NAVIX60 (60 m Explorer Yacht) 
Project partner: Blokland and VULKAN 

In 2019, VULKAN and Blokland realized that VULKAN products and services and Blokland’s shaft lines complement each other very well. The collaboration began with the PROPFLEX Series for the larger systems, where VULKAN introduced the horizontal mounting brackets in combination with ChockDesign re-adjustable elements for rigid mounting of the PROPFLEX units. “These innovative solutions are perfect for alignment and assembly,” Blokland says. The cooperation between VULKAN and Blokland, strengthened by the service expertise of VULKAN Benelux, was intensified and extended to other products, leading e.g. to the development of the MEGIFLEX BT and MEGIFLEX TC Series. The expectation for the future is to ensure that VULKAN becomes the partner of choice for Blokland in the realm of propeller shaft lines.

Challenge:

Construction of shaft lines, flap rudders and steering systems for a 60 m Explorer Yacht, suitable for Polar Regions. 

Solution:

Blokland has engineered the complete shaft line for this vessel equipped with twin electric propulsion, complete with: 

  • ChockDesign components for installation of E-motor
  • PROPFLEX thrust bearing mounted between E-motor and propeller shaft flange
  • ChockDesign components for installation of E-motor,
  • propeller shaft, propeller shaft holding device
  • closed lubricated stern tube with bearings and shaft seals
  • V-bracket with special designed NACA profile
  • shaft grounding device and a 5-bladed propeller. 

The rudder has been designed as flap rudder type for optimum maneuverability. 

Advantages:

The main advantage of this project with project partners is one shaft line partner who is responsible for complete drive line. All components are engineering for reduced vibrations and comfort on board.
