Anganwadis are rural childcare centers in India, established by the government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program. The term “Anganwadi” means “courtyard shelter” in English. These centers play a crucial role in combating hunger and malnutrition in children and provide basic health care, nutritional education and pre-school activities. They care for children aged 0-6 years and also support expectant and nursing mothers.
Rotary International and the CSR Awards
Rotary International's District 3131 covers the revenue districts of Pune and Raigad in Maharashtra, India. The district has nearly 6,000 members and addresses a wide range of social and environmental issues through various programs and initiatives.
The Rotary CSR Awards were launched in 2019 to recognize companies doing excellent community service through their CSR initiatives. These awards aim to raise awareness of social challenges and showcase effective CSR projects. They are traditionally highly anticipated and recognize outstanding achievements in categories such as healthcare, education, environment and community development.
Rotary clubs are known for their extensive network and local social commitment. They provide financial support, volunteer work and strategic advice to ensure the effective implementation of projects. By partnering with the Rotary Club of Poona West, VULKAN India had the opportunity to utilize the club's expertise and resources to make a difference in the lives of children and mothers in the Pune region.
Impact of the Project
The joint project focused on supporting 55 Anganwadis with 3,600 beneficiaries in the Pune region, particularly in Maval and Mulshi Taluka. This involved improvements to infrastructure and healthcare and an expansion of the education program. Thanks to VTI's commitment, the children now have access to better nutrition, healthcare and pre-school education. Young mothers also receive better support and advice.
“I am very honored to receive the Rotary CSR Award for the Best CSR Project in Health Care for Large Enterprises on behalf of VULKAN Technologies Private Limited,” said Managing Director Rajesh Mishra at the award ceremony. “This award recognizes our commitment to the community.”
VULKAN India has implemented nearly 100 direct and indirect CSR projects in collaboration with over 30 charitable foundations and NGOs over the last ten years.
"Our partnership with the Rotary Club of Poona West has been instrumental in the success of our initiatives. Together, we have changed the lives of many people and this award reflects our shared dedication to community service," continued the Managing Director. "A big thank you goes to everyone involved in this project and to the Rotary Club for this wonderful recognition. We look forward to continuing our work and achieving even more. We are proud of this achievement and remain committed to making a positive impact in our community," promised Rajesh Mishra.
