TARGET Sales Management System - Application Notes
Web Site Updating/Control
TARGET and UEN provide complete function for the inventory portion
of your web site. This explains the features and controls you have
available.
UEN<->Web Site Interaction
The UEN system is used to store all data for the inventory portion
of your web site rather than having a separate database. For sites
hosted by Halliburton Systems all references to your inventory have
URLs composed with your domain name rather than UEN's domain name.
Sites hosted elsewhere have to use one of the fixed domain references
to the UEN site. In any case, there is no UEN branding on the
actual inventory display. Items to be displayed as your inventory
are identical to those displayed on UEN. See the
help page on UEN for details on how to make
sure that your listings all go to UEN.
The non-inventory portion of your web site is normally produced from
static HTML code (regular web pages). The inventory display page
link points to the UEN server and carries enough information to
identify your company (based on UED dealer number). Once this link
is followed, the UEN system generates the appropriate pages for your
site as they are requested.
Control Parameters
The UEN inventory generator system has a number of paramters that
specify the appearance of your inventory pages. For complete details
we suggest you contact HSI, but the main controls cover:
- Selection and placement of page-top graphics
- Choice of graphic to indicate picture/spec available
- Choice of background color
- Customized return messages
- Appearance and titling of specials page
Note that by using different versions of the inventory page link, we
can customize the sorting/searching functions. The default is based
on the UEN specialty->category taxonomy but this is not required.
Specials Page
A relatively new feature of the UEN web page system is the ability
to control the appearance and content of a specials (or what's new)
page. Once the page format is established, items are put on the page
by specifying the "!" advertising code in your TARGET system; this
must be in addition to the "#" code required for appearance on UEN.
