TARGET Sales Management System - Application Notes
UED Advertising Control
The automatic interface in your TARGET system to UEN may be used
to control your UED magazine advertising also. This eliminates
the need to maintain separate lists or deal with the advertising
confirmation sheets. This function will be active only after
you return the signed agreement to HSI.
Controlling Advertising
Selecting listings to appear in UED is simple. In addition to the
advertising selection code "#" for UEN, just use code "U" to indicate
that a listing should appear in the next issue of the UED magazine.
Each time you update UEN, this information will be exchanged with the
UEN system to keep your selections up to date in that database. Note
that this code will work only on machine types I/K/S; it does not
work on W listings because the category for wanted listings in UED
is not the same as in TARGET & UEN.
Important Dates
HSI staff will pick up your UED listings from UEN on the 13th of
each month (or the following Monday if the 13th is on a weekend).
You should have your listings updated on TARGET and complete a UEN
update by the end of business on the 12th to make sure the correct
listings appear in UED. Note that under certain circumstances HSI
may have to pick up listings again before the 15th of the month
so you should not make changes to your UED advertising for the
following month until after the end of business on the 15th.
Listing Rules
There are certain rules that apply to UED listings. The most
important is that positioning of listings in the magazine is
completely automatic and based on the contents of the
category-specific sort fields. The first field is the most
important; while the system will not reject a listing that
has a blank first positioning field, such a listing will run in
the magazine at the bottom of the appropriate category.
Listings are also subject to length limitations. Generally
speaking, the in-house description line in TARGET should fit
easily in a UED listing line as long as the listing is mixed
case. Listings which are all upper case may be too long; if
so, they will be truncated when printed in UED. In the current
release (19.1) of TARGET, there is no warning of this. If listing
length proves to be a problem, we will add a length warning to the
TARGET maintenance screens in a future release.
